Markus Frank each scored 20 points Saturday as the Shippensburg University men's basketball team made a season-high 41 field goals in an efficient 95-68 victory over Cheyney at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (7-12) shot 53 percent from the field and had 23 assists compared to just 10 turnovers as it snapped a three-game skid. SU scored 58 points in the paint and made a season-high nine three-pointers.
Cheyney (2-16) started out 7-of-10 from three-point range and was within three points, 33-30, with 4:05 to go in the first half. The Raiders closed on a 13-4 run and entered halftime with a 46-34 advantage. SU stretched its lead to 20 points with 12:25 remaining and led by double digits the entire second half.
Conner scored 15 points in the first seven minutes of the contest, opening 6-of-6 from the field (3-of-3 from three-point range). Overall, Conner was 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range. His 20-point performance left him just two points short of his career high. He did match a career high with five rebounds and added three assists.
Frank finished 10-of-14 from the field; he grabbed seven rebounds and had two assists. He scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half.
Junior
Donovan Hill recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Hill added four assists, two blocks and a steal.
Junior
Trey Martin scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out four assists without committing a turnover. Freshman
Jaydon Smith provided five points, three rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Juniors
Jalen Bowie and
Denzel Figueroa each contributed eight points and four rebounds off the bench. Bowie also had three assists and a steal.
Redshirt-freshman
Jackson Boone had two points and pulled down a career-high six rebounds in the final 3:34 of the contest while redshirt-freshman
Drew Sleva made his first career field goal – a three-pointer with 80 seconds left.
The Wolves got 14 points each from Josh Blackmon and Nathan Pettus Jr. – the duo combined to shoot 5-of-7 from three-point range. Jalen Long had 11 points and four assists off the bench while D'Angelo Lake had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Shippensburg hosts Shepherd at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Heiges Field House.
