SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team dropped a physical contest to the Bloomsburg Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division showdown Saturday at David See Field, 3-1.
Shippensburg's (2-4, 1-2 PSAC East) only shot on goal in the match came via a penalty kick late in the third period, which was deposited into the net by senior
Victor Vottero for a consolation goal.
Bloomsburg (5-2-1, 2-1-1) maintained the bulk of the possession Saturday, resulting in a 19-to-3 advantage in total shots and a 12-to-1 Husky margin in corners.
The Huskies took the lead after 20 minutes thanks to a goal from Owen Hollobaugh. The score remained 1-0 until the second half, when Bloomsburg's Quaid Molino hit from distance in the 51st minute. Winger Jaliyl Melvin rounded out the BU goals with a tally in the 70th.
The Raiders were finally able to solve the Husky defense in the 88th minute. Vottero headed an SU free kick to sophomore
Luca Heusser, who was hauled down in the box for a Shippensburg penalty kick.
The game was marked by physical play between the two sides, featuring a total of 18 fouls and three yellow cards.
