SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's cross country team won its third straight meet of the season Saturday afternoon as it completed the 2024 Dickinson Short Invitational on a rainy afternoon in Newville at Big Spring High School.
Dickinson's cross country meet features four races: two "Long" invitationals (a men's 8K and a women's 6K) and two "Short" 4K invitationals. Because of this, the team scoring is comprised of a team's Top 3 finishers instead of the traditional Top 5 finishers. The Raiders did not compete in either of the "Long" invites – solely in the 4Ks.
SU ran 2-3-4 for the win, with redshirt-freshman
Tommy Crum Jr. leading the way in 12:07.9. Junior
Garrett Quinan ran 12:11.1, while senior
Aiden Gonder crossed the finish line in 12:14.5.
Junior
Ryan Wolfe finished sixth; graduate
Ian Sherlock seventh and freshman
Ramon Urena ninth to earn Top 10 finishes.
Sophomores
Brennan Wellock (14th place),
Ben Devine (17th place) and
Jackson Gutekunst (20th place) each posted Top 20 finishes.
SU finished seven points ahead of the host Red Devils, as Dickinson senior Brock Overlander won the individual race by six-tenths of a second ahead of Crum, who made a late charge.
The Raiders are now 29-0 through the first three meets of the season.
Shippensburg's biggest meet of the regular season is next Saturday, as the team competes at Lehigh's prestigious Paul Short Run.
