SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey netted a season-high 10 goals from seven different players in a nonconference tilt with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex.

The Shippensburg (6-0) goal-scoring barrage was led by two goals apiece from senior Valu Paul, junior Agus Garibaldi and freshman Anne Gardner. Senior Yasmin De Meyer, sophomore Mckenna Boyle, junior Lilly Cantabene and freshman Avery Austin also found the back of the cage.

The Raiders scored the first nine goals of the contest, pouring it on against The Rock in every metric, including shots on goal (23-to-3) and penalty corners (14-to-2).

After Garibaldi and Paul opened the scoring with tallies inside the first seven minutes, De Meyer authored the biggest highlight of the contest, blasting a perfectly placed rocket from the edge of the circle past the helpless SRU goalie and into the top left corner of the cage.

Garibaldi's two goals gave her a team best seven on the season, while Gardner now is second on the club with five goals scored.

Austin's tally was the first goal of her collegiate career. Senior Brea Borrell recorded her first career assist.

Slippery Rock (2-2) got a consolation goal off the stick of Grace Williams with less than five minutes remaining. SRU goalkeeper Grace Burker was busy, finishing the day with 14 saves.

Because of the wide margin, every player on the roster saw action for the Raiders, including all three goalkeepers. Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Meinke and senior goalkeeper Kristen McCormick were each credited with a save.

Up next, the Raiders open PSAC play next Saturday when they host Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. at Robb Sports Complex. SU meets The Rock in conference play Oct. 19 on the road.
