SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University redshirt-junior Tanner Hess was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office.
 
Tanner Hess recorded 181 all-purpose yards and a special teams score in the Raiders' 24-21 victory over the Clarion Golden Eagles Saturday at SU's Seth Grove Stadium.
 
Hess set the tone for a crazy and memorable day for the Raiders by returning the Saturday's opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. He also added a 43-yard kick return late in the first half.
 
Hess finished with 148 kick return yards and boasted an average of 49.3 yards per return in three attempts. Saturday's performance also marks the second consecutive week Hess has reached 100-or-more kick return yards (100 Week 1 at AIC).
 
It is the first Athlete of the Week recognition in Hess's career and the first Athlete of the Week recognition for the Raiders this season. He is the first Raider to win Special Teams Athlete of the Week since Tanner Luther on Oct. 23, 2023.
