RECAP: Women’s Outdoor Track & Field records slew of new personal bests at Colonial Relays

Graybill, Mastria, Wert, Malcolm among the notable Raiders in action

The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team achieved a number of new personal bests as its competed Friday at the 2024 Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William & Mary.
 
The Colonial Relays is one of the most prestigious meets in the Mid-Atlantic and is a scored meet that contests most of its individual events on Day 1 so that the relays can receive center stage on Day 2.
 
Leah Graybill won the 200 meters, surpassing the NCAA provisional qualifying standard with a time of 24.19 seconds. Graybill also ran third in the 100 meters, crossing the finish line in 11.87 seconds. Aliyah Serrano also achieved Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifiers in both events, running 12.29 seconds in the 100 and 25.55 seconds in the 200.
 
Caroline Mastria and Alyssa Wert ran PRs in the 400. Mastria placed sixth, contributing to the team score with an excellent time of 56.88 seconds that gives a slight improvement to her all-time No. 9 ranking in school history. Wert had a big breakthough, eclipsing the 59-second mark for the first time by a significant margin with a time of 58.28 seconds.
 
In the seeded portion of the 5K, three Raiders ran PRs. Kelsey Hull and Belle Weikert achieved conference qualifiers with respective times of 18:10.31 and 18:10.40. Morgan Hess made her collegiate outdoor debut in the 5K, running 18:46. Hull is now qualified for PSACs in the 800, 1,500 and 5K, while Weikert is now qualified for both the 5K and the 10K.
 
The 100 and 400 hurdles were full of improved personal bests as well. Madison Malcolm enhanced her 100-meter hurdles to 15.71 seconds, and Nicola Puggé; also achieved a PSAC cut by running 15.78 seconds. Malcolm ran eighth in the 400 hurdles, upping her personal best to 1:04.11. Melanie Barger improved to 1:04.55. Ryleigh Marks crossed the finish line in 1:06.80 – the exact same time she ran at Lynchburg.
 
Sara McKean paced the Raiders in the long jump, finishing third with a top mark of 18 feet, 7 inches – a centimeter farther than her best mark at Lynchburg.
 
Shippensburg's split squads will compete again tomorrow at both William & Mary and Millersville.
