SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University's Josh Herbster has repeated as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, as the weekly awards were announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.

At Lafayette this past Saturday, Herbster broke the all-time PSAC record in the hammer throw and also achieved a new lifetime best in the discus. The pair of NCAA provisional qualifiers now have him ranked sixth on the NCAA Division II performance list in the hammer and 10th in the discus.

Herbster didn't just break the PSAC record once, he actually did it twice – first doing so on his fourth attempt with a colossal throw of 207 feet, 8 inches (63.30m). On his next attempt in his throwing series, Herbster unleashed what is now the all-time league milestone: 210 feet, 6 inches (64.18m).

The previous PSAC hammer throw record was 206 feet, 11 inches – set by East Stroudsburg legend Travis Toth back in 2016. Herbster's previous PR was 204 feet, 2 inches, which was tied for the school record with Caleb Bartlett.

But that wasn't it for Herbster. He also won the discus throw with a new personal best of 172 feet, 1 inch. It is an enormous personal best of more than 10 feet, as his previous PR was 160 feet, 3 inches at last year's conference championships. The performance ranks fourth all-time in school history.

It is the second weekly award of the outdoor track & field season for the Raiders. It is Herbster's fifth career PSAC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award and his sixth PSAC weekly award overall. He won PSAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 22, 2024. His previous outdoor awards came last week, April 4, 2023, March 28, 2023 and April 13, 2021.
