The Shippensburg University baseball was defeated by a tough Seton Hill squad, 6-5, on Tuesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover matchup at the SHU Baseball Complex.
Shippensburg (14-9) took a 5-1 lead into the eighth inning before the Griffins (15-7) exploded for five runs in the final two innings to take a walk-off win.
Junior
Carter Hinds was 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, driving in three rund. Hinds was also hit by a pitch in the game and stole a base. Senior
Andrew Chronister went 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Freshman
Brady Harbach was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Junior
Carter Arbuthnot picked up a hit and a run scored in the ballgame.
Freshman
Conner Barto got the start, allowing two hits with two strikeouts over three innings.
Seton Hill out-hit Shippensburg 10-9 and both teams stranded 10 runners on the basepaths. The Raiders made two errors in the ballgame.
The Raiders threatened early in the game, loading the bases with two outs in the second inning, but a strikeout got Seton Hill pitcher Luke Deschenes out of the inning.
The breakthrough came in the top of the third as the Raiders took a 2-0 lead. Junior

Justin Byler walked with one out and Baal singled to load the bases. A good piece of hitting by Chronister allowed Calamia to come home on a groundball for the first run of the game. A wild pitch in the next at-bat plated Byler.
Harbach got things going in the fourth inning with a one-out single, later advancing on a grounder. A single to left field brought Harbach in to score for a 3-0 lead.
Freshman
Ryan Novakowski came on to pitch in the fourth inning, tossing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in relief.
Arbuthnot got another rally going in the sixth inning with a leadoff single, and Harbach walked in the next at-bat. A sacrifice bunt advanced both runners, setting up another single by Hinds that brought in both runs for a 5-0 advantage.
Seton Hill clawed its way back in the eighth inning, making it a 5-4 ballgame. A double and a single started the inning, and Owen Henne brought both runs home with a two-run single. The Griffins loaded the bases later in the frame and brought another run home on a groundball.
The Griffins continued their momentum into the ninth with a leadoff single. SHU loaded the bases, and a hit batsman – the second of the inning – tied the game at 5-5. With one out, Colin Ahr drew a walk to bring in the winning run.
SU returns to Fairchild Field for a doubleheader on Friday against Shepherd beginning at 1 p.m.
