The Shippensburg University men's outdoor track & field team had a successful start to the 2024 season Friday with a parcel full of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifiers at the Dr. Jack Toms Alumni Invite hosted by the University of Lynchburg.
The three events on the track were all of the mid-distance and distance variety, and the nine Raiders to take to the track all achieved a PSAC qualifying time in their respective outing.
The 10K was a paced workout for six Raiders:
Aiden Gonder (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land),
Hayden Hunt,
Garrett Quinan,
Nathan Harding,
Kevin Wagner and
Ryan Wolfe. The goal was to achieve a conference cut.
All six SU runners were not only successful, but they crossed the finish line practically in unison. The official timing of the six finishes were just .14 seconds apart. Gonder was clocked at 32:51.32.
The 1,500 meters featured
Tommy Crum Jr. leading three Raiders with an eighth-place time of 3:55.94.
Chase Hensinger ran 3:58.70 and
Brennan Wellock crossed the finish line with a time of 4:01.53.
Day 2 of the meet begins at 9 a.m. with the hammer throw.
