SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University junior Mason Boyd has been named the 2024 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year.

Boyd authored one of the best seasons in SU history in the heptathlon. He was a member of the NCAA All-America Second Team, placing 10th overall at the NCAA Championships, and was also crowned the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships' Field Athlete of the Year in winning the conference heptathlon title. He broke his own all-time PSAC indoor heptathlon record twice during the postseason (5,201 points at PSACs, 5,219 points at NCAAs).

He also ranked seventh in the PSAC in long jump (23 feet, 3 ½ inches, (7.10m)), 10th in the pole vault (14 feet, 11 inches (4.55m), PR at NCAAs) and 11th in the high jump (6 feet, 4 ¾ inches (1.95m)).

Boyd was recognized by the USTFCCCA as part of their 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Regional Awards released late last week. Each of the eight regions – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – honored both gender's top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.

Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches following the conclusion of the 2024 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. Performances from both the NCAA Championships and the regular season were considered. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.
