Shippensburg University Assistant Director of Sports Medicine Tanya Miller was recently recognized as the recipient of the 2024 Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award presented by the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society (PATS).
Miller is currently in her 11th year as Assistant Director of Sports Medicine at SU. She serves as the Chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee for PATS, and has been helping to get legislation introduced and passed regarding athletic trainers for approximately 10 years.
"I am humbled and honored to be recognized for this award," Miller said. "I am grateful that I have been in a position to help my fellow athletic trainers and hopefully soon our current and future athletic trainers in Pennsylvania."
"Tanya has been the consistent voice promoting the profession of athletic training with governmental officials in Pennsylvania. I am very fortunate to have a colleague in Tanya, with her experience and expertise, providing care for the student-athletes at Shippensburg University," said Shippensburg University Director of Sports Medicine Wes Mallicone.
Miller was previously recognized with a PATS Service Award in 2014 for "outstanding contributions to PATS and the Commonwealth's athletic trainers."
She will be formally recognized at an awards banquet during the 2024 PATS Symposium in June.
Tanya Miller speaks during a press conference at the main rotunda of the Pa. Capitol building in Harrisburg on Nov. 13, 2023.
