SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team dominated Shepherd in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on Wednesday night, 93-51, at Heiges Field House. The Raiders tallied their highest point total and shooting percentage (49 percent) of the season in the season finale.
Graduate
Treasure George led all scorers with a career-high 35 points in her final collegiate game. It was 11 more points than her previous career high of 24 points set as a sophomore. George knocked down three three-pointers, was 8-of-10 at the free-throw line, grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists.
Freshman
Alexis Buie set a new career high with 17 points and earned her first career double-double by matching her career high of 10 rebounds. Buie was 8-of-11 from the field and had two blocks, two assists and a steal in the game.
Graduate
Madi White wrapped up her collegiate career Wednesday night by coming close to a double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds. White also had three assists.
Freshman
Bella Chimienti finished in double figures with 14 points – marking her 11th double-digit output of the year. Chimienti was 2-of-3 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the foul line.
Junior
Taja Colbert scored four points and dished out a career-high seven assists while committing just one turnover.
Junior
Abbie Miller went for eight points on 4-of-6 shooting with eight rebounds. Sophomore
Makayla Foddrell had five points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Shippensburg (6-22, 5-17 PSAC) shot a season-high 49 percent in the game on 37-of-75 shooting. The Raiders scored 26 points off turnovers and had 18 second-chance points from 19 offensive boards. SU dominated the glass, 51-34.
The Raiders also had a season-high 22 assists and a season-high 15 steals while committing a season-low 10 turnovers.
Shippensburg used a big 15-0 run in the first quarter to build a 17-8 lead after one. Shepherd (6-20, 4-17) knocked down a three and a jump shot for a quick 5-0 start before the Raiders got going with a second-chance basket for George. She scored 10 points in the run, including two threes, to help SU take a 15-5 lead.
The Rams picked up some momentum early in the second quarter, chipping away at the Raider lead. A 6-0 run by Shepherd brought the game within four points with 4:33 remaining. Two threes by Chimienti put the Raiders back up by 10, but another run for Shepherd made it a five-point game. A basket by George in the final seconds of the half gave the Raiders a 33-26 halftime lead.
Shippensburg was hot coming out of the break, going 12-of-12 from the field to open the third quarter. SU opened the frame with a 17-5 run to take a 50-31 lead. The Raiders went for 30 points in the quarter, finishing the frame 13-of-19 (68 percent) from the field to head into the fourth quarter with a 63-44 lead.
SU continued to dominate in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Rams 30-7 in the final frame. The Raiders held the Rams scoreless over the final 5:37, closing out the game with a 17-0 run. Shippensburg shot 66 percent (24-of-36) from the field in the second half.
