SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University Men's Soccer team concluded its season with a hard-fought draw against regional rivals Shepherd in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle under the lights Friday at David See Field, 1-1.
Shippensburg (2-13-1, 1-8-1 East) buried a first half penalty kick off the boot of senior
Ashton Davies, only to have the goal canceled out by a long-range goal from Shepherd (5-9-4, 2-6-2) in the dying embers of the match.
The Raiders landed the first blow in the 36th minute. Freshman midfielder
Maddox Davies' dangerous ball over the top of the Shepherd backline created an opening for sophomore forward
Cam Henry in front of goal, where a rash challenge from a Shepherd defender resulted in a penalty.
The elder Davies stepped up to take the spot kick and calmly slotted it past the Shepherd keeper for a 1-0 lead.
The advantage lasted until the 79th minute, when Ram forward Mac Long unleashed a low left-footed line drive from outside the box that caromed off the inside of the left post and in, leveling the score at 1-1.
Shippensburg redshirt-freshman goalkeeper
Jack McCann performed well in his first career start, registering a handful of terrific diving saves.
The match got chippy at several points, as the referee handed out a total of six cautions in the match – including five total yellow cards issued to Shippensburg.
