Four Raiders reach double figures in loss

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team lost a seesaw battle to Indiana (Pa.) in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover clash Sunday afternoon at the Kovalchik Complex, 72-57.

Shippensburg (2-4, 1-1 PSAC) used a 9-0 spurt to close the first half to tie the score at halftime, 33-33, and maintained a slim lead early in the second stanza before fading down the stretch.

Four Raider players reached double figures, led by 11 apiece from redshirt-sophomore Markus Frank, freshman Jaydon Smith and junior Jalen Bowie.

IUP (4-2, 2-0) began the game with a 14-0 run, and closed the contest by outscoring the Raiders 22-9 over the last eight minutes.

SU's first half run was capped by a game-tying layup from junior Michael Dickson just before the halftime buzzer.

The Raiders led by as much as three points after the break, 39-36, following a jumper from junior Timmy Conner with 14:31 remaining.

Later, a Bowie three cut the IUP advantage to just two, 50-48, with 8:46 left.

Kymani Marrero led the Crimson Hawks with 18 points and seven rebounds. Christian Moore finished with 15 points.

Junior Trey Martin (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) rounded out SU's double figure scorers with 10.

Up next, the Raiders return host Bowie State Sunday at 3 p.m.
