Shippensburg University alumnus Gabe Mosser '18 signed a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday to continue his baseball career.

Mosser, a Parkland High School graduate and Allentown native, will likely pitch for his hometown team, the Phillies' AAA affiliate the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

"I'm super excited," Mosser said. "It's a dream come true to finally be able to play for the hometown team. I'm looking forward to working my way to the big leagues and helping the Phillies bring home a World Series."

Mosser signed as a six-year minor league free agent after spending the entirety of his professional career in the San Diego Padres organization, who drafted him in 2018.

Pitching for the AAA El Paso Chihuahuas this past summer, Mosser set career highs in games (28), starts (26), innings pitched (133.1), and tied his career best win total (7). He enjoyed his best stretch for the Chihuahuas from May through July, where in 10 appearances (nine starts) he pitched to a 3.33 ERA.

After the season, he was invited to pitch for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League, a league run by Major League Baseball to provide further development for top prospects.

Mosser's SU career included a pair of all-conference and all-region awards. Over his final two seasons as a Raider, Mosser went 16-9 with a 2.94 ERA – striking out 179 batters in 153 innings while yielding just five home runs against. He totaled 262 strikeouts over 238 collegiate innings.
