The Shippensburg University women's soccer team saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to end with a loss to the Bloomsburg Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup Wednesday at Steph Pettit Stadium, 3-0.
Shippensburg (2-6-2, 2-4-2 PSAC East) had five shots on goal in the contest, including two each from freshman
Lannah Werynski and sophomore
Gabrielle Walker, but could not find the back of the net.
Bloomsburg (7-3, 5-3) netted three goals on six shots on target, getting tallies from Beth Stephens, Luci Bell and Olivia Thompson.
The Huskies opened the scoring in the 33rd minute via Stephens. A timely block from junior
Sammy Lerario denied the Huskies a sure goal late in the first half, keeping the deficit at a single goal.
Werynski then saw a breakaway chance turned aside by Bloomsburg goalkeeper Samantha Merklin during the early stages of the second half.
Bloomsburg later extended its lead with a pair of goals inside the final ten minutes.
Merklin finished with five saves, while sophomore
Kirstin Brown was credited with three saves in goal for Shippensburg.
The Raiders return to action when they host West Chester Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
