CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team completed a Saturday afternoon tri-meet sweep, taking down non-conference opponent Fairmont State, 131-71, and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent California (Pa.), 111-93, at Hamer Hall Natatorium.
 
Shippensburg (3-3) used two relay victories and five individual victories overall to pull ahead of the Vulcans (1-1) and the Falcons (0-2). The quartet of junior Makennah Fickett, freshman Paige Bensinger, freshman Elyse Arnold, and graduate Laurel Gingrich opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a time of 1:53.35.
 
Freshman Olivia Carver paced the pool in the 1,000-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 11:02.97 to win the event and satisfy the PSAC qualifying standard (11:02.97). Carver returned later to take the 200-yard butterfly, posting a 2:21.42 to pace the field by over ten seconds.
 
Gingrich returned to the pool in the 200-yard freestyle, using a blistering 30.71 last 50 split to overtake Rachel Shryock of Fairmont and Antonia Gheorghita of Cal to win with a time of 2:02.82. Fickett swam and paced the pool in the 200-yard backstroke, swimming a 2:15.19 to dip under the PSAC standard (2:16.28). Sophomore Caroline Schweigert finished behind Fickett, swimming a 2:20.10 to place second.
 
Sophomore Charlee Shaw  took the final individual victory of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:37.41.
 
The team of senior Lauren Croll, Gringrich, Arnold and Carver ended the day with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, taking the event in a time of 1:42.99.
 
The Raiders return home to face Clarion at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 for Senior Night.
