The Shippensburg University field hockey team recorded a 3-0 shutout over Slippery Rock on Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Â
Shippensburg (13-0, 6-0 PSAC) finished with a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal and a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners but remained scoreless with Slippery Rock (2-10, 0-7) until the final six minutes of the first half. The score remained 1-0 into the fourth quarter until the Raiders scored twice in a two-minute span to extend their lead.
Â
The only goal of the first half came off a penalty corner and was the seventh of the season for sophomore
Mckenna Boyle, who fired a shot that ramped off the goalkeeper's foot and into the top of the goal. Sophomore
Carme Caracotche Picone had the assist on the play.
Â
Junior
Agus Garibaldi used some of her stick skills for some juggling in the box to hit home her 14th of the season early in the fourth quarter, while freshman
Anne Gardner scored her sixth goal of the season with just less than 10 minutes to go.
Â
Saturday's match was a far cry from the previous meeting between the teams earlier this season, a 10-1 non-conference rout at Robb Sports Complex on Sept. 21.
Â
Redshirt-junior
Emma Albee was credited with one save in recording her eighth shutout of the season.
Â
Shippensburg hosts nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Robb Sports Complex.
