The Shippensburg University women's swimming team dropped a non-conference matchup Friday night at Frostburg State, 116.5-88.5, at Bobcat Natatorium.
 
Shippensburg (1-3) had strong performances across the board, but the Bobcats (1-0) were able to win enough events to pull away from the visitors. Graduate Laurel Gingrich had the strongest night for SU, winning two individual events and anchoring an exciting 400-meter medley relay race to open the meet.
 
Friday's night meet was contested with the distances of events in meters as opposed to the normal measurement of yards.
 
Junior Makennah Fickett, sophomore Charlee Shaw, freshman Olivia Carver, and Gingrich raced the 400-meter medley relay, winning with a time of 4:35.97.
 
Sophomore Caroline Schweigert, senior Emily Newton, freshman Paige Bensinger, and sophomore Mackenzie Beerman took second in the race with a time of 4:37.96.
 
Gingrich raced past the field in the 50-meter freestyle, touching the wall in 27.61 seconds to take first place. Gingrich later returned in the 100-meter freestyle to flex her sprinting expertise, winning with a time of 1:01.90. Senior Gracie Wetzel finished behind Gingrich in second place with a time of 1:04.24.
 
Carver won the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:34.53. Fickett and Wetzel were behind her, taking second and third with times of 2:37.08 and 2:39.11. Carver later swam the 400-meter freestyle, taking second with a time of 4:45.77.
 
The Raiders will visit host California (Pa.) for a tri-meet at 11 a.m. Saturday.
