The Shippensburg University men's swimming team had a thrilling conclusion to its non-conference matchup against Frostburg State Friday evening, winning by a single point, 102-101, at Bobcat Natatorium.
Shippensburg (2-2) was faced with a 92-75 deficit going into the final two events of the meet but used strong performances in both races to pull ahead of the Bobcats (0-1) at the end.
Friday's night meet was contested with the distances of events in meters as opposed to the normal measurement of yards.
Senior
Nathan VanNatter outswam the field in the 100-meter breaststroke, winning with a time of 1:09.46 that just out-touched Frostburg's top swimmer at 1:09.61. Freshman

Nate Wauls continued the strong swims to take third and fourth with times of 1:09.97 and 1:10.78.
SU cut the lead to 97-89 with the 400-meter freestyle relay to go and delivered two phenomenal performances to take the meet. The quartet of sophomore

Connor Ludwig sprinted through the water to a time of 3:35.98, beating the field by more than four seconds.

David Johnson competed with the Bobcat's "A" relay, finishing third with a time of 3:42.66.
The Raiders opened the meet with Koeth, VanNatter, Einolf, and Ferlick taking the 400-meter medley relay by more than eight seconds, swimming 4:00.33. Koeth returned two events later to win the 200-meter freestyle, dipping under two minutes in the race, going 1:59.97.
Einolf used a 28.08 opening 50-meter split to surge away from the field in the 100-meter butterfly, returning in a 32.28 that resulted in a time of 1:00.36 and first place. Ferlick showed off his sprinting prowess one event later in the 100-meter freestyle, beating the field by nearly two seconds with his time of 53.59 seconds.
Johnson picked up second place in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:17.37, and Kissinger took second in the 400-meter freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 4:29.27.
The Raiders will travel to host California (Pa.) to face Fairmont State at 11 a.m. Saturday.
