The Shippensburg University men's swimming team completed its first duals of the 2023-24 season Friday with a tri-meet at West Chester where the Raiders competed against the host Golden Rams and Southern Connecticut State.
 
The Raiders took to the pool for 12 individual events and two bookend relays. The quartet of freshman Mason Koeth, sophomore Zaidian Van Orden, freshman Robbie Ferlick and sophomore David Johnson concluded the meet by posting the fastest non-exhibition time in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:13.34.
 
Koeth had an impressive debut for the Raiders, finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.85. He also led the Raiders in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing third with a time of 2:00.37, and contributed to both of the "A" relays.
 
Freshman Cooper Mercer posted the top times for the Raiders in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke, with times of 56.10 and 2:23.87. Van Orden paced the Raiders in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.49, and junior Nathan VanNatter led the Raiders in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.18.
 
With the removal of diving, SU's team score was 126 points behind West Chester and 17 behind Southern Connecticut State.
 
The Raiders will travel to Bloomsburg for a dual meet next Saturday at 1 p.m.
