The No. 5 Shippensburg University field hockey team got first-half goals Wednesday from junior
Yasmin De Meyer and sophomore
Agus Garibaldi in addition to seven saves from redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Emma Albee as it blanked No. 3 West Chester, 2-0, in a non-conference matchup at Vonnie Gros Field.
Â
Shippensburg (5-2) claimed its seventh straight victory in the series over its long-time rival. It is the first of two meetings between the two teams in a 14-day span, as West Chester (4-2) will come calling to Robb Sports Complex in two weeks as it looks for revenge in the conference matchup between the two teams.
Â
The Raiders recorded just three shots on goal in the first half but two of them were converted into tallies. De Meyer scored her third goal in the last two games just 3:08 into the contest, diving to the turf and ripping a reverse chip into the cage. Garibaldi assisted on that goal and then took matters into her own hands for the second, as she stole the ball in the offensive zone and then ripped a shot into the lower-right portion of the cage from atop the scoring circle.
Â
Albee recorded her second straight shutout by matching her season high in saves. She made four stops in the first half to keep the Golden Rams off the scoreboard and contributed a diving effort among her three saves in the second half.
Â
Shots on goal ended up 9-7 in Shippensburg's favor, as WCU goalkeeper Emerie Loftus made five of her six saves in the second half. Mikenna Price had a defensive save for the Golden Rams. Corners were 7-5 to SU's advantage.
Â
Shippensburg will travel Saturday to No. 8 Bloomsburg for a noon matchup with the Huskies.
