RECAP: Men’s Soccer scores late to earn 1–1 draw at Slippery Rock

Ashton Davies equalized with an Olimpico in the 69th minute

The Shippensburg University men's soccer team fought to a 1–1 draw, playing with 10 men against Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in its first road contest of the season.

After an 11th minute goal from Arturo Pla Hernandis gave Slippery Rock (0–2–2) an early advantage, Shippensburg (2–1–1) trailed for nearly an hour in the match before finding the tying goal. The Raiders were left with 10 men after freshman Cam Henry received a red card in the 32nd minute.

The Raiders tallied 10 shots in the match and five on target. Junior Ashton Davies equalized in the 69th minute with an Olimpico, a goal scored directly from a corner. The midfielder curled his set piece on frame into the near post where the keeper did not react in time to keep Davies' effort out of the net.

Junior Cody Willoughby made six save in his return to field, keeping  Slippery Rock from doubling its lead before the Raiders' tying goal.

Shippensburg travels to West Chester to take on the Golden Rams in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on Wednesday with kickoff at 2 p.m.
