RECAP: Women’s Soccer wins first match of season, defeating Lock Haven, 2-1

Goals by DiCandilo and Stephen lifted the Raiders over the Bald Eagles

The Shippensburg University women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Wednesday evening, defeating Lock Haven on the road, 2-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match at Hubert Jack Stadium.

Shippensburg (1-3-0, 1-1-0 PSAC East) was highly efficient in the first half, only taking one shot on goal that resulted in a tally for the Raiders. Sophomore Kaitlyn DiCandilo scored her first collegiate goal in the 23rd minute, sending a shot high over the Bald Eagle goalkeeper off an assist by graduate Skylar Lambert.

Lock Haven (0-4-0, 0-3-0 PSAC East) evened the score in the 55th minute with an Evelyn Ciaccia goal that was assisted by Julia Haines.

The Raiders scored the go-ahead goal 12 minutes later. Junior Olivia Stephen finished an assist by Sophomore Ryleigh Cook in the 67th minute to put the Raiders ahead 2-1. Cook collected a longball from junior Suzy Dietrich and touched it into the crease to Stephen for the game-winning goal.

Shippensburg staved off the Bald Eagles for the last 23 minutes. Junior Morgan Molyneaux recorded four saves in the match.

The Raiders will continue their road stretch at 1 p.m. Saturday when they take on No. 6 Kutztown. The Golden Bears won 3-0 today at No. 12 West Chester.
