The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team came up short on the road Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 decision to No. 10 Mansfield at Karl Van Norman Stadium.
Â
Shippensburg (3-2) finished with a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners and an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal, but the Raiders were unable to find the back of the cage. August Lewis, the reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Week, made seven saves for the Mountaineers – who posted their third consecutive shutout.
Â
Mansfield (4-0) scored a goal in each of the first two quarters and rode that 2-0 advantage to victory. The second half featured just three combined shots on goal. SU had six of its 10 penalty corners in the second half.
Â
Junior
Lindsay Tripodo made four saves in the first half, while redshirt-sophomore
Emma Albee made one save in the second half.
The victory by the Mountaineers is their first over the Raiders since 2007, ending a 22-match SU win streak in the overall series.
Â
Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it hosts IUP for a non-conference match at Robb Sports Complex.
