Five Shippensburg University women's student-athletes have been recognized as 2023 Division II Academic All-District ® At-large honourees, an award that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
Two SU field hockey players and three women's lacrosse players were selected to the At-Large team.
Junior field hockey defender
Merel Hoekstra is an academic senior who graduated with a degree in marketing. She maintained a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) through the completion of 110 credits.
Hoekstra, an All-PSAC honoree, led the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and was tied for second nationally in defensive saves (8), including two in an NCAA Semifinal victory against West Chester. She missed the first six games of the season due to injury, but in her first game back against East Stroudsburg, she led the Raider defense to a shutout of the eventual national-champion Warriors and was named the PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
Hoekstra contributed to a defense that posted five shutouts and held opponents to one goal or less in 13 games. In her career, she appeared in 32 games with 27 starts. She totaled five goals, three assists, one game-winning goal and 12 defensive saves.
Sophomore field hockey goalkeeper
Lindsay Tripodo is an academic senior who is majoring in communications, journalism, and media with a concentration in public relations. She maintains a 3.71 GPA through the completion of 89 credits.
Tripodo ranked fourth in the PSAC in saves (98) and saves per game (4.9), while ranking fifth in the PSAC and eighth in the nation for goals-against average (GAA) (1.22). She posted a .817 save percentage which is fourth in the nation and recorded 22 saves in an NCAA Semifinal win over West Chester, the second-most saves in NCAA Division II National Championships history.
In her career, she has appeared in 40 games with 39 starts, posting a 34-4 record and totaling 144 saves. Tripodo has a 0.92 career GAA, 10 solo shutouts and a .814 save percentage.
Graduate lacrosse midfielder
Hannah Seifried is a fifth-year senior who graduated cum laude with a degree in Accounting in May 2022, and just received her MBA this May. She maintained a 3.52 GPA as an undergraduate through the completion of 120 credits and a 3.61 GPA through the completion of 30 graduate credits.
Seifired ranked second on the team in goals (18) and assists (7) and tied for the team lead in draw controls (56). She also ranked third on the team for caused turnovers (11) despite missing three games due to injury. She scored multiple goals in six games and had at least one draw control in each appearance, including a season-high 11 vs. Millersville.
In her career, Seifried was the 2021 PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year, a two-time IWLCA All-Region player and a two-time All-PSAC East honouree. She appeared in 67 games with 60 starts, while totaling 130 goals (fifth all-time in SU history), 23 assists, 153 points (ninth all-time in SU history), 251 draw controls (second all-time in SU history), 55 caused turnovers and 116 groundballs (10th all-time in SU history).
Sophomore lacrosse goalkeeper
Kayla Vosburg is an academic sophomore who is majoring in civil engineering. She has a 3.88 GPA through the completion of 64 credits.
Vosburg, the starting goalkeeper, ranks fourth in the PSAC in saves per game (10.47) and played all 1020 minutes in goal for SU, recording a .410 save percentage. She totaled 178 saves, including 10 or more saves in 12 games with a season-high 15 saves in the season opener against PSAC finalist Seton Hill.
In her career, she has appeared in 31 games including 28 starts, totaling 285 saves, a .415 save percentage, nine caused turnovers and 59 groundballs.
Sophomore lacrosse forward
Sara Vosburg is an academic sophomore who is majoring in criminal justice. She has a perfect 4.0 GPA through the completion of 63 credits.
Vosburg led the team in goals (33) and points (40) while recording five hat tricks, including a career-high six goals against Millersville. She scored at least one goal in 13-of-17 games and had at least one draw control in 12 games. Vosburg ranks third on the team for draw controls (32) and was tied for fourth in groundballs (26).
In her career, she has started and appeared in 34 games, totaling 54 goals, 12 assists, 43 groundballs, 58 draw controls and 19 caused turnovers.
The Academic All-District ® Team is selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). Whereas most of the Academic All-District and All-America ® teams focus on specific sports, the At-Large category features a collection of several sports: beach volleyball, bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, and water polo.
All five Raiders are now among those eligible for consideration for the Academic All-America ® Women's At-Large Team that will be announced June 22.
