Alyssa Nehlen of the Shippensburg University softball team was named Tuesday to the 2023 Division II Academic All-District ® Softball Team, an award that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
Nehlen is an academic senior who graduated with a degree in biology with a concentration in pre-med. She maintained a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) through the completion of 48 credits. Nehlen will start her Master's Degree in Biology in Fall 2023 while playing her last year of softball.
A 2023 PSAC Softball Champion, Nehlen has started all 54 games at second base for the Raiders and has been one of the best defender for SU with only two errors and a .990 fielding percentage.
Nehlen hit .285 with 12 runs, 45 hits, five doubles and 22 RBIs. She has a .316 slugging percentage, while drawing 15 walks. She is one of the perennial leagues leaders in HBP and holds the school record with 30 HBP. Nehlen produced 10 multi-hit games, a season long eight hitting streak, and a season high 12 reached based streak.
The Academic All-District ® Team is selected by the College Sports Communicators. Nehlen is now among those eligible for consideration for the Academic All-America ® Team that will be announced June 6.
