SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team earned the final spot in the 2023 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship and will travel to No. 2 seed Seton Hill for the Atlantic 2 Regional that includes No. 3 seed East Stroudsburg and No. 6 seed Mercyhurst.
Â
Shippensburg (27-23) opens its NCAA Tournament campaign against the newly crowned PSAC champions Seton Hill (44-10) at 11 a.m. Thursday at the SHU Baseball Complex. This contest is a rematch of the Raiders first round matchup from the PSAC championship, a game in which the Griffins defeated SU 12-1.
Â
The Raiders last faced the Griffins in the NCAA Tournament in 2013. After dropping the tournament opener to SHU 4-1, the two teams met again in the regional final. Shippensburg got its revenge, defeating Seton Hill 10-3 and 3-2 to punch its ticket to the College World Series.
Â
It is the 23rd NCAA Baseball Championships appearance in school history, including the fifth under SU Head Coach
Matt Jones. SU has posted a 10-6 record in the NCAA Tournament under Jones (1-2 in 2017, 4-1 in 2013, 4-1 in 2008, 1-2 in 2007).
