CHARLESTON, W.V. — The Shippensburg University softball team earned the Atlantic Region's No. 2 seed in the 2023 NCAA Division II Softball Championships on Monday and will travel to No. 3 seed Charleston for the Atlantic 2 Regional pod that includes No. 6 Kutztown and No. 7 Davis and Elkins.

Shippensburg (32-18) will face Mountain East Conference (MEC) Runner-Up No. 7 Davis & Elkins (29-26) in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament. The Raiders were not able to host the NCAA Atlantic Regional at Robb Field this year due to the locker room renovation starting at Henderson Gymnasium.

The Raiders will begin regional play on Thursday at 3 p.m. It is the first meeting between the two teams since March 13, 2016, when the Raiders beat the Senators, 4-0 in the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament. SU has a 10-0 head-to-head record against D&E.

Shippensburg has now qualified for the NCAA Tournament back-to-back years and for the second time in seven seasons under head coach Alison Van Scyoc.

Shippensburg is 25-33 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has won two NCAA Division II Regional Championships: 2003 and 2004. This is the 18th NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional appearance for the Raiders and the 19th postseason appearance overall (SU competed in the AIAW Division III in 1982). The Raiders' best finish is third in the NCAA Division II Championship in 2004.
