SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University chapter of Tau Kappa, women's athletics honor sorority, hosted its 10th annual "Project Prom Dress" event on Sunday March 26 at Heiges Field House.
Project Prom started in 2010 and has been a longtime community service endeavor by Tau Kappa. The event is designed to make it easier for teen girls in local areas to attend their high school formals by lessening their financial burden. Tau Kappa wants to help make memories that will last a lifetime.
Project Prom had various gently used prom and homecoming dresses, shoes, jewelry and purses. The dresses they accumulated ranged from sizes 0-20. This year, TK raised $530 from Project Prom which was donated to "Girls on the Run," a non-profit organization that aims to bring a sense of confidence in young girls while advancing compassion for themselves and others.
"The event went great after not having it for two years due to the pandemic," said faculty liaison, Miranda Fisher. "It allows the women to organize a large event for the young women in the community."
"I love that Tau Kappa hosts this event every year because being able to inspire younger girls and help them feel confident and beautiful is my favorite thing about this event," said Maddy Tursi, Tau Kappa member.
Fisher added, "I'm really proud of the work the women in TK have accomplished in bringing this community event back after two years off. It was a great success."
