Lindsay delivered three hits and four RBIs; Marsteller hit a solo home run

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Shippensburg University softball team swept past Pace on Sunday afternoon, with a score of 1-0 in the opener and 6-1 in Game 2 on a sunny day at Robb Field.

Shippensburg (5-4) junior Morgan Lindsay led the team going 3-for-5, with a double, and totaled four RBIs. Lindsay also drew two walks. Freshman pitcher Kaira Zamadics had her first complete game and collegiate win. Zamadics allowed four hits, one run and had a strikeout in Game 2.

Seven Raider starters had at least one hit in the doubleheader including multiple hits from graduate Hannah Marsteller and freshman Caitlin Martell. Marsteller had a solo home run and had two hit by pitch to give her a 1.000 slugging percentage.

The Game 1 winning pitcher was sophomore Alicia Ball, who threw a shutout and only allowed two hits and two walks. She also had a season-high six strikeouts. Fellow sophomore Aryanna Briddell came in as the designated player in Game 2 and had a 2-RBI single and drew a walk.

Shippensburg will be back in action at 1 p.m. Wednesday to start its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division campaign as they face East Stroudsburg at Robb Field.

Game 1: Shippensburg 1, Pace 0

The Raiders struck early in the first inning, Marsteller singled up the middle with two outs to get on base, and was brought home with Lindsay's double to left center, for a 1-0 lead.

Ball was efficient in the circle that she only allowed two hits and struck out six Setters. She did not allow her first hit until a two-out double in the fifth inning. In the top of the seventh, Pace (2-2) had two runners on base with one out, but the Raiders were able to stay calm and get the second and third out. Pace batters had a .087 batting average facing Ball.

Game 2: Shippensburg 6, Pace 1

Shippensburg came out swinging in the first inning; a solo home run by Marsteller to left field set the pace for the Raiders. Lindsay and junior Alyssa Nehlen each walked, while Martell singled up the middle. With the bases loaded, Briddell hit a line drive to left field to score Marsteller and Lindsay for a 3-0 lead. Briddell was the fifth consecutive Raider to reach base in the inning.

The Raiders kept the hitting momentum going into the second inning as sophomore Ally Weaver and junior Taylor Myers both singled to have two runners on base. Minney reached base on a fielder's choice. Lindsay brought home Minney and Myers off a single to left center and a 5-0 lead.

Lindsay singled again in the bottom of the fourth to bring home Minney, who reached base on a double. Pace got back one run with a solo home run by Brianna Shea in the top of the fifth.

Zamadics allowed only four hits and one run. She walked two and struck out one. Pace batters had a .174 batting average facing Zamadics.
