The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team completed a solid opening weekend Saturday with competition on a damp, grey day in Virginia at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Lynchburg.
Shippensburg recorded 15 performances on the day that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships automatic qualifying standards for their respective events.
Aliyah Serrano made her outdoor debut with the Raiders and set new personal bests in both her sprints. Serrano won the 200 meters in a time of 24.82 seconds and took second in the finals of the 100-meter dash by running 12.07 seconds.
Kayla Dalhouse achieved a conference qualifier in the 200 meters by posting a fifth-place time of 26.01 seconds, and she reached the finals of the 100-meter dash and delivered a fifth-place effort of 12.62 seconds.
Alyssa Wert was the lone Raider to compete in the 400 meters and finished fifth with a conference qualifier of 1:00.18.
Kyra Gerber paced the Raiders in the mid-distance events, running sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.37 and fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:43.46.
Kelsey Hull ran 4:49.73 in the 1,500 and
Isabelle Gulgert ran 4:56.34 to each pick up PSAC cuts in the event.
In the hurdles,
Melanie Barger finished third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.16, while
Sasha Lee ran fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.80 seconds. Both performances are PSAC cuts. Lee also achieved her league qualifier in the long jump on a sixth-place mark of 17 feet, 5 ½ inches.
Wert, Barger,
Emily Calamia and
Maddy Stango teamed up to run the 4x400-meter relay in 4:14.28.
Allyson Richwine impressed in her outdoor high jump debut, winning the event with a top clearance of 5 feet, 3 inches for a conference qualifier.
Katie McNesby and
Ellie Kuhn nabbed PSAC clearances in the pole vault, with McNesby fourth by getting over the bar at 10 feet, 11 ¾ inches, and Kuhn tying for fifth with a clearance of 10 feet, 6 inches.
Payton Bauer paced the Raiders in the shot put, finishing third on a top throw of 40 feet, 2 ¾ inches that stands as a conference qualifier.
Next weekend, Shippensburg will travel to The College of William & Mary for three days of competition in the prestigious Colonial Relays. A split squad will travel to Millersville on Saturday.
