The Shippensburg University men's indoor track and field team was represented at the 2023 Hemery Valentine Invitational by its distance medley relay on Friday, with the relay delivering a NCAA provisional qualifying performance in Boston.
The quartet of
Matt Wehrle,
Eric Kirk,
Chase Hensinger and
Drew Dailey crossed the finish line in 9:49.01, finishing seventh among the 30 schools to complete the race.
Wehrle was clocked at a blistering 2:59.59 on his opening 1,200-meter leg to get the Raiders momentum in their pursuit of a national qualifier. Kirk was split at 49.09 seconds; Hensinger was split at 1:52.50, and Dailey was split at 4:07.84.
The Raiders sit around 11th place on the national leaderboard pending the results of other meets across the nation this weekend, including the highly-touted GVSU Big Meet. Typically, the NCAA takes 12 distance medley relays to nationals.
The DMR was the only men's event contested Friday. All remaining men's events take place tomorrow in Boston.
