Shippensburg University freshman
Jazz Barry was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office after completing a busy and productive weekend at Gettysburg.
Over the course of a two-day meet at Gettysburg which was comprised entirely of timed finals, Barry swam a total of seven times – three times in individual events and four times in relays.
Her individual performances included two times that cracked SU's all-time Top 10 for the respective event. In the 50-yard freestyle, Barry finished second with a time of 23.78 seconds – the second-fastest in school history – and an NCAA 'B' cut that is tied for fourth-fastest in the conference this season.
Her second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly of 58.37 seconds is tied for ninth in school history and is the sixth-fastest in the league this season. Both of those performances are new personal bests.
Barry also completed the 100-yard freestyle in 53.51 seconds, but later improved that time to 53.21 seconds based off her opening leg from the blocks of the team's 400-yard freestyle relay that concluded the meet. That performance is just shy of SU's all-time Top 10 in that event.
Among her other relay splits included 28.89 seconds for a 50-yard breaststroke in the 200-yard medley, a 1:04.56 split for a 100-yard breaststroke in the 400-yard medley relay, and 23.94 seconds for a 50-yard freestyle on the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Barry is the first SU women's swimmer to receive a PSAC weekly award this season and the first Raider to be honored by the conference office for a weekly award since
Allie Keeling on Jan. 18, 2022.
