Lavar Jackson was named the inaugural Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office after a historic debut on Saturday at Bucknell's Bison Opener.
In his collegiate debut, Jackson broke the school record in the indoor 200 meters for the Shippensburg University men's indoor track & field team at 2023 Bison Opener at Bucknell.
Jackson ran 21.57 seconds to win the 200 meters in his debut, eclipsing Aaron Arp's record of 21.81 seconds (set Jan. 25, 2020 at Bucknell's Gulden Invitational) and signifying his second provisional qualifier of the day.
The flat-track performance, when run through the NCAA's track-type conversion calculator, would equate to 21.19 seconds on a banked/oversized track. The current Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) all-time indoor record of 21.24 seconds (East Stroudsburg's Chris Reddick in 2010) was achieved on an oversized track at the PSAC Indoor Championships hosted by Edinboro.
Earlier in the day, Jackson won the finals of the 60-meter dash in 6.77 seconds – the second-fastest time in school history for that event and one that is just .02 seconds shy of Stephon Brown's 2021 record. Jackson ran 6.83 seconds in prelims.
Jackson's converted time of 21.19 seconds is currently the fastest time in the nation in D2 per TFRRS (as of 5 PM on Sunday). Meanwhile, his 6.77 seconds in the 60-meter dash ranks seventh in the nation in D2 per TFRRS (as of 5 PM on Sunday).
