The Shippensburg University women's indoor track & field team got the 2023-24 season underway Friday night at the Bison Opener as three of its multis competitors successfully completed the pentathlon in competition at Bucknell University's Gerhard Fieldhouse.
 
Due to the number of entrants the pentathlon was split into two sections, an orange section and a blue section (in honor of Bucknell's school colors).
 
Nicola Puggé; was the lone Raider to compete in the orange section – she finished fourth overall with a score of 3,155 points. She set a new indoor PR in the long jump, landing a top mark of 17 feet, 8 ¼ inches, while also producing solid marks in the 60-meter hurdles (9.44 seconds) and the shot put (37 feet, 3 ¾ inches).
 
Ryleigh Marks and Kyli Moon-Rumsey competed in the blue section and impressed with solid scores. Marks, making her collegiate debut, finished second with a score of 2,953 points. Moon-Rumsey, in her second season with the Raiders, finished third with a score of 2,785 points – a new PR score by 18 points.
 
Marks won the 60-meter hurdle competition (9.34 seconds) and the long jump competition (17 feet, 0 ¾ inches) while scoring third in the shot put (32 feet, 2 inches) and tying for third in the high jump (4 feet, 6 ¼ inches).
 
Moon-Rumsey set new indoor bests in the 60-meter hurdles (9.64 seconds) and the 800 meters (2:34.59), with her performance in the latter setting a new personal best by more than two seconds and clocking in as the second-fastest in the competition.
 
Shippensburg's full squad is set to compete tomorrow at Gerhard Fieldhouse.
