SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team dropped its dual meet opener to the Elizabethtown Blue Jays Wednesday evening at Heiges Field House, 39-7.
 
The Raiders (0-1) picked up wins from redshirt-junior Andrew Wert at 133 pounds and sophomore Kyler Everly at 165.
 
Wert earned takedowns to start the first and second periods, then added a pair of back points to jump out to a big advantage over E-Town's Brayden Schuyler. He rode his opponent for 3:01, and the resulting riding time point was the difference in a major decision victory, 10-2.
 
Everly took down E-Town's Caden Droege twice in the second period to win a 7-2 decision.
 
Freshman Jayden Hammonds and sophomore Cole Lang scored takedowns wrestling more seasoned opponents at 141 and 174, respectively.
 
The more experienced Blue Jay (1-0) lineup got wins from senior Scott Reagan (141), graduate Shane Strausser (149), graduate Brian Schneider (174), junior Will Davis (184) senior Trai Roland (197) and senior Dylan Waller (285).
 
Reagan, Strausser, Scheider and Waller each earned bonus points.
 
The Raider wrestling team returns to action at the Waynesburg Duals Saturday, Nov. 18.
