LANCASTER, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team continued its weekend at Franklin and Marshall on Saturday and improved to third place in the team standings through two days of competition at the Kunkel Aquatic Center.
Several Raiders had impressive performances during the finals session, with senior
Alyssa Tomb highlighting the night by winning the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:36.99. Tomb used a strong breaststroke leg to pull away from the field, splitting 37.55 and 37.73, which were the fastest out of the event by over two seconds. Junior
Gracie Wetzel and freshman
Caroline Schweigert both competed in the 'C' final of the event, finishing in 19th and 23rd.
Freshman
Jazz Barry continued her impressive weekend with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in a time of 1:05.80 which ranks fifth in school history in the event. Freshman
Charlee Shaw competed and won the 'B' final, placing ninth with a time of 1:07.75.
Senior
Michaela Hersh and sophomore
Makennah Fickett represented the Raiders in the 'A' final of the 100-yard butterfly, finishing sixth and seventh with respective times of 58.15 and 58.35 seconds. For Fickett, her finals time ties her for seventh in school history in the event, and Hersh's prelims time of 58.06 seconds slots her in sixth.
Junior
Allie Keeling paced the Raiders in the 200-yard freestyle, competing in the 'A' final and placing seventh with a time of 2:00.55. Freshman
Michelle Kubiak competed in the 'B' final, placing 13th with a 1:59.99.
SU found three swimmers in the 'A' final of the 100-yard backstroke, with senior
Marissa Bittner placing fifth with a time of 59.51. Hersh swam a 59.63 to place sixth, and Fickett placed eighth with a time of 1:00.67.
The Raiders opened the night with the quartet of Fickett, Barry, Hersh, and junior
Lauren Croll taking second overall in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.76.
Overall, SU had 18 finishes at finals, with each swim achieving a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standard.
After two days of competition, the Raiders sit in third in the team standings with 628 points. Sunday's prelims are set to begin at 10 a.m., with finals scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
