The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team will face No. 3-ranked Kutztown at 2:30 p.m. Friday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship semifinal matchup at East Stroudsburg's Whitenight Field.
Â
The winner will face either No. 1 East Stroudsburg or No. 4 Mansfield in the PSAC Championship game at 1 p.m. Sunday. ESU and Mansfield will play at noon Friday.
Â
Friday's semifinal is pivotal from a regional perspective, as Shippensburg is currently ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region while Kutztown is No. 4 (ESU is No. 2, Mount Olive is No. 3). The Top 3 teams from the Atlantic Region will advance to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
It will be the second time this season that Shippensburg and Kutztown will face each other. On Oct. 10 at Kutztown, in what was also a matchup of the No. 2 and No. 3 nationally-ranked teams, the Raiders achieved a 3-2 victory on the strength of a third-quarter goal by
Tess Jedeloo.
Â
SU and KU have alternated wins and losses in the last three meetings. Last season, the Golden Bears posted a resounding 4-1 victory at Robb Sports Complex. Overall, in the last seven meetings between the two teams, SU is 4-3. Three of those seven games went to overtime.
Â
Shippensburg is 19-29 overall in the PSAC Championships. The Raiders are making their 30th appearance in the PSAC Semifinals on Friday, entering with an all-time PSAC Semifinals record of 13-16. SU has won two PSAC Championships (2005, 2021).
