SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team could not slow down visiting Bloomsburg on Wednesday night, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Huskies in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at David See Field.
Shippensburg (1-9-0, 1-7-0 PSAC East) got a strong effort in goal from senior
Kendra Barlow, who made five saves. SU was even with Bloomsburg (3-4-3, 3-3-2) at the half; the two teams combined for just three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes but two of them found the back of the net.
Brooke Foster scored her second goal of the year for the Huskies after a splendid corner by Alivia Gallardo practically landed on Foster's leg and went right into the goal.
With about nine minutes left in the first half, SU equaled the score when freshman
Ava Ciriaco finished a cross from fellow freshman
Mia Kemp (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) to make it 1-1. The play began at midfield when sophomore
Ryleigh Cook sent a through ball into Kemp, whose centering pass was "one-timed" home by Ciriaco.
Bloomsburg attempted seven corner kicks in each half, and their offensive pressure proved the difference in the 61st minute. Lauren Bull's shot was stopped by Barlow at close range, but the resulting carom was sent into the night by Erin Ranegan for the go-ahead tally.
Husky goalkeeper Riley Spingler made three saves, all in the second half.
Shots on goal finished 7-4 in Bloomsburg's favor.
Shippensburg is off this weekend and will next be in action at 1 p.m. next Wednesday at West Chester.
