The Shippensburg University women's cross country team heads to Bloomsburg University this weekend for the 2023 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. The race will be held on Bloomsburg's Upper Campus Course and the gun for the 6K race is set to go off at 10 a.m.
Live coverage of the race, a course map, parking details and more information related to the championships is available by clicking on the blue 2023 PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS HOME PAGE button above to the right.
Shippensburg will be competing at Bloomsburg for the first time in four years, as the Huskies last hosted the conference championships in 2019. It will be new terrain for the Raiders to navigate this weekend.
Despite the unfamiliarity of the course, nine of Shippensburg's 12 runners have the experience of running in a conference championship race. SU returns two All-PSAC performers from last season: sophomore
Livi Rieck [23rd] and redshirt-sophomore
Kelsey Hull [29th].
Several Raiders have shown significant development in their races this season. The squad is eager to put its best foot forward against the best runners that the conference has to offer.
"We are excited to go to PSACs as a team and see where we stand,"
Belle Weikert said. "It is exciting to see all the other schools and to represent Shippensburg."
Saturday also marks the culmination of a regimented running routine that dates back to the summer.
"We've been training really hard since June, and it is time to put all our work out there and see what we can do on race day,"
Leah Moffitt said.
Weikert and Moffitt are the most veteran of the Raiders, as each woman will be competing in her fourth conference championship race this weekend. Both women are two-time scoring runners at the conference meet, having achieved the honors in their freshman and sophomore seasons.
Multiple Raiders have also had to navigate through some dings and dents along the way, but the majority of the team's roster is fit and prepared to run on Saturday.
"Health is a key to success," head coach
Steve Spence said. "Due to injury and illness, we haven't had our Top 7 runners participate in a meet since the opener on Sept. 1. As of this moment, it appears that we are healthy and ready to go. We'll put them in bubble wrap, hopefully avoid all the germs flying around, and be ready to go for Saturday."
