SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team remained perfect at home Wednesday night as it led wire-to-wire and took down Shepherd, 92-52, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (16-3, 11-2 PSAC) shot at least 50 percent from the field in all but one quarter. The Raiders took a 24-point halftime lead and continued to build its lead through the remainder of the contest.
Four starters posted double figures for the Raiders and SU had 26 points from its bench.
Graduate
Lauren Pettis led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the field. Tonight was her fourth 20-point performance of the season. Pettis had 15 of her 20 points by halftime. She also added six rebounds.
Senior
Ariel Jones added 18 points and grabbed six boards. Jones went 7-of-8 at the charity stripe.
Graduate
Erin Gibbons was hot from behind the arc, hitting all four of her three-pointers in the first half. She finished with 13 points and dished out four assists.
Junior
Treasure George had her third double-double of the season, grabbing ten rebounds and adding ten points in addition to four assists and two steals.
Off the bench, graduate
Mya Woodyard added eight points, four rebounds and two steals. Freshman
Makayla Foddrell went a perfect 2-of-2 from the field and hit her career high in points with seven. Sophomore duo
Taja Colbert and
Abbie Miller each contributed five points. Miller also grabbed eight boards.
Junior
Carolina Sanchez added four points, going a perfect 2-of-2 from the field. Freshman
Sophie Kirby hit her first points of her collegiate career at the free throw line, going a perfect 2-of-2, and added an assist.
Shepherd (0-18, 0-13) was led by Sydney Bolles who had 11 points and eight rebounds. The Raiders held the Rams to a 31.1 shooting percentage.
Shippensburg heads on the road this Saturday to face Lock Haven at 1 p.m.
