The Shippensburg University women's basketball team came up on the short end of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game on Wednesday night that featured 17 lead changes and 19 ties, falling 76-73 to the Huskies at Nelson Field House.
Shippensburg (13-3, 8-2) had its five-game winning streak end despite committing a season-low eight turnovers and shooting a healthy 46 percent from the field. Senior
Ariel Jones and graduate
Lauren Pettis combined for 48 points, with Pettis contributing her fourth straight double-double, but the Raiders allowed the hosts to shoot 49 percent from the field – the highest field-goal percentage by an opponent this season.
Bloomsburg (5-9, 3-7) shot the lights out Wednesday, including an incredible 8-of-10 (80 percent) from three-point range. Bench players Megan Fisher and Allison Hileman combined to shoot 7-of-8 from three-point range and totaled 27 points between them; the Huskies finished with 40 points from their bench and 37 points from their starters. Sixteen of their bench points came in the fourth quarter.
Shippensburg started off strong in the third quarter and led 48-40 with four minutes left but BU came back with a 14-2 run to take back the lead with a minute left. In the seesaw fourth quarter that featured five ties and four lead changes, SU led by three points with 3:39 to play but needed a layup from Jones with 45 seconds left and a layup from Pettis with 29 seconds to stay even with Bloomsburg. Fisher hit her fourth three-pointer of the night with six seconds remaining, and a three-pointer by Jones at the buzzer just missed, giving the Huskies the win.
Jones led the team with 33 points, her third 30+ point game of the season. She had 20 of the 34 points of the Raiders by halftime. Jones added five assists, four rebounds, one steal and no turnovers. Pettis added 15 points and 10 rebounds. She was among those in foul trouble in the first half, and 13 of her points came all from the second half. Pettis added three blocks.

Treasure George had a team-high two steals and added nine points, while sophomore
Abbie Miller added six points and five rebounds.
