Agus Garibaldi scored the opening goal on Saturday afternoon, as the No.1 Shippensburg University field hockey team was victorious over No. 4 Saint Anselm to start their 2022 season, 2-0, at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (1-0) scored one goal each in the third and fourth quarter. Garibaldi scored her first collegiate goal from a short corner pass from sophomore
Tess Jedeloo at the top of the circle, to take a 1-0 lead after 31 minutes of playing.

In the fourth quarter, sophomore
Valu Paul scored off a rebound shot by Jedeloo in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Lindsay Tripodo made three saves, while the backline was made up of three freshmen that held the Hawks to three shots on goal and one penalty corner.

Saint Anselm (0-1) goalkeeper Mackenzie McConnell made 17 saves off 19 shots on goal by the Raiders, who totaled 14 penalty corners.

Shippensburg returns to action next weekend, with a non-conference matchup against Newberry at 3 p.m. at Robb Sports Complex.
