SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team is eager to step on the field for the first game of the 2022 season.

The Raiders are returning 23 players from the 2021 season, including eight seniors. They add 10 newcomers to the roster, including seven first-year players and three transfers.

"I think we are very prepared for the season," senior Lauren Ocker said. "As a whole, we have a lot of chemistry even though we have a lot of new faces on our team."

The Raiders finished 2021 with five wins and have put in significant work during the offseason to improve their record from last season and make their first PSAC playoff appearance since 2015.

"Everyone did a great job on their fitness tests this season," senior defender Sydney Miller said. "We have worked really well as a team to build that team chemistry quickly and I think that showed on the field in our first two scrimmages."

The pieces to the puzzle are coming together quickly for the Raiders. Their emphasis on team chemistry has been the focal point for the accomplishments they are striving for this season.

"I think having a fresh start is something, when you're coaching soccer, is a positive thing every year," head coach Rob Fulton said. "It is going to be an ongoing process, but certainly teams are having to adjust on the fly in our conference and trying to get up to speed quickly."

Schedule: SU begins the 2022 season at Maryland Sports Complex vs. Frostburg State tomorrow at 7 p.m. The Raiders will compete in the first home game of the season Saturday, Sept. 3 vs Kutztown.
