SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Shippensburg University softball team battled through ten innings against Seton Hill, but fell to the Griffins, 3-2, on a cloudy Friday afternoon in an NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional game at Robb Field.
Shippensburg (32-19) and Seton Hill (38-10) combined to have 18 hits but also stranded 30 runners on base. Junior
Hannah Marsteller reached base five times and did not get out the whole game including drawing three walks. She had an RBI and was at bat during the wild pitch that scored sophomore
Taylor Myers .
Shippensburg started the opening inning the way they started yesterday's match against Bloomsburg. Leadoff batter Myers reached base on a hit by pitch. Marsteller singled through the right field line to bring Myers home, after Myers had advanced to third base on a ground out by senior
Morgan DeFeo.
Seton Hill answered back in the bottom of the third inning with one run scored off a Raider error to tie the score at 1-1. Both team's defense kept the game locked to 1-1, including two notable catches from All-PSAC Second Team shortstop sophomore
Alyssa Nehlen in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning to get the last out.
The Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning. After back-to-back single by Myers and DeFeo that placed two runners on base with two outs, Myers scored on a wild pitch. The Griffins tied the game in the bottom with a sacrifice fly by Grace Paredes.
Both teams had an opportunity in the ninth inning with bases loaded but were unable to take advantage. SU had a runner in scoring position in the tenth inning but was left stranded. SHU scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the tenth to take the victory.
SU is now 4-2 on the season in extra inning play.
