SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track & field team had an excellent showing at home on Wednesday in the Midweek Invitational, with
Leah Graybill breaking her own school record in the 100 meters to highlight a day full of personal bests and conference qualifiers at Seth Grove Stadium.
Graybill was one of five Raiders to set new personal bests in the 100 meters, winning the event in a time of 11.91 seconds. It's an improvement of .04 seconds from her previous record set at last year's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships held at Seth Grove Stadium.
Sara McKean continued her strong season, running second in the 100 with a PR of 12.37 seconds, while
Adriana Baxter crushed her personal best with a third-place time of 12.46 seconds.
Kayla Dalhouse improved to 12.50 seconds, and
Jess Sobieski ran 13.45 seconds.
SU's vertical jumps continued to perform well, with McKean leading three Raiders in the long jump on a third-place distance of 18 feet, 10 inches (5.74 meters). McKean nearly landed a six-meter jump but fouled that attempt.
Jenna Lytle improved her season best in the triple jump to 36 feet, 3 ½ inches.
Freshman
Sasha Lee had the best day so far of her first collegiate outdoor season, recording collegiate bests in all three of her events. Lee took third in the triple jump, pacing the Raiders with a top mark of 38 feet, 7 inches, ranked fourth in the long jump on a top distance of 18 feet, 2 ½ inches, and won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.04 seconds.
Shippensburg totaled 19 performances on the day that satisfied the PSAC automatic qualifying standard – 11 coming on the track.
Caroline Mastria won the 400 meters with a new PR, crossing the finish line in 57.08 seconds.
Lieke Black enhanced her season best in the 400-meter hurdles to 1:04.95.
Kyra Gerber continued her excellent work of late by setting a new PR in the 800 meters, winning that event in 2:15.72. She also set a 3K best of 11:18.59 and capped her day by anchoring a "distance" 4x400-meter relay squad.
Sydney Morgan picked up a conference qualifier in the 1,500 meters, running a PR of 4:57.61.
At the throws area,
Kate Matrisciano took third in the shot on a top put of 40 feet, 2 ¼ inches and
Abby Reasoner was third in the javelin on a top throw of 118 feet, 1 inch.
Madisen Kling paced the Raiders in the discus and hammer.
Shippensburg is slated to have a couple of select competitors Saturday at Bucknell while the full team returns to action in 10 days when it hosts the Paul Kaiser Classic on Saturday, April 30 at Seth Grove Stadium.
