SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's outdoor track & field team had a strong showing at home on Wednesday, winning 10 events at the Midweek Invitational contested at sunny and breezy Seth Grove Stadium.
Among the day's strong showings was the high jump, as three Raiders recorded season bests and automatic Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifiers.
Jordan Winslow equaled his outdoor PR set at last year's Midweek Invitational, winning the event on a top clearance of 6 feet, 6 ¾ inches (2.00 meters), while
Kenny Rhyne cleared 6 feet, 4 ¾ inches and
Donovan Hart got over the bar at 6 feet, 0 ¾ inches.
In total, Shippensburg recorded 27 performances that satisfied the league standard, including two NCAA provisional qualifiers.
Shamar Jenkins grinded out a victory in the triple jump, recording a top mark of 48 feet, 4 ¾ inches, and
Josh Herbster claimed gold in the hammer throw with a top toss of 189 feet, 2 inches.
Mo Whittle improved his season best in the 100 meters, winning the event in 10.84 seconds.
Eric Kirk won the 200 meters with a time of 22.21 seconds.
Aaron Arp Jr. picked up a conference qualifier in the 100 meters by running 11.09 seconds.
Isaiah Barnes achieved two new PRs, finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.63 seconds and completing the 100 meters in 11.66 seconds.
Robbie Hrabosky II nearly reached his season best in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second in 56.56 seconds.
Among the mid-distance standouts were
Ryan Scicchitano, who was the runner-up in the 800 meters with a new PR of 1:55.02, and
Ian Sherlock, who crushed his PR in the 1,500 meters with a victorious time of 3:56.00.
Kevin Wagner led a group of four consecutive Raider finishers to win the 5K, picking up a conference qualifier with a huge outdoor PR of 15:27.68.
Nate Kaplon was second and also picked up a big personal best, running 15:30.50.
Nathan Harding was fourth and broke the 16-minute mark for the first time outdoors, delivering a time of 15:51.36.
Cole Harris delivered the fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best of 10:30.88.
Brooks Bear continued his solid season with a new PR in the discus, winning Wednesday's competition on a top throw of 163 feet, 7 inches. It's the second straight meet that Bear has achieved a new personal best after doing so in the hammer last week at Bucknell. He also finished second to Herbster in the hammer on Wednesday; his top throw traveled 180 feet, 10 inches.
Mike Folcarelli won the javelin on a top throw of 182 feet, 2 inches.
Logan Parker paced the Raiders in the shot, placing second on a top throw of 50 feet, 0 ¾ inches.
