The Shippensburg University women's track & field team fared well in throwing events on Saturday at the Millersville Metrics, with Madisen Kling winning the discus to highlight the day for the Raiders at the Biemesderfer.
 
Shippensburg recorded seven performances in throws that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) automatic qualifying standards.
 
Kling had a top throw of 132 feet, 3 inches in the discus to improve her season best by about six feet. She also took eighth in the hammer throw, setting a new PR with a top mark of 144 feet, 1 inch. Deja Winkler paced the Raiders in the hammer with a significant personal best and a fifth-place finish. Kate Matrisciano paced the Raiders in the shot with a fifth-place put of 39 feet, 10 ½ inches and was third in the discus on a top mark of 124 feet, 9 inches.
 
Abby Reasoner took second in the javelin, improving her season best to 126 feet, 6 inches. Katie Mancino recorded a PSAC qualifier with a fifth-place throw of 121 feet, 2 inches.
 
Belle Weikert had the team's lone conference qualifier on the track, running second in the 10K with a time of 40:16.05.
 
The Raiders managed a fifth-place finish in the team standings (50 points) despite having only a portion of its roster at the meet. Thirty-seven of their points came from throws. Jade Fry was sixth in the steeplechase and Carson Pennings was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.
 
Shippensburg will travel to George Mason University next weekend.
