RECAP: Lacrosse closes out win over Georgian Court, 11-10

Seifried, Krahl record hat tricks; Weneta makes 10 saves in the win

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team got a free-position goal from freshman Sara Vosburg with 3:10 remaining on Wednesday to defeat Georgian Court, 11-10, in a non-conference matchup on a sunny and pleasant day at Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (2-1) took a two-goal lead with 5:25 to play, but Georgian Court (1-3) countered with two goals in a 70-second span to equal the score at 10-10. Vosburg's goal came a minute later, and the Raider defense clamped down in the final minutes to earn the victory.

The Raider defense was impactful in key stretches, limiting the Lions to one goal in the first 14 minutes of the game and also to just one goal in the entire second quarter. Three of Georgian Court's goals came in the final 20 seconds of a quarter, while senior Hannah Seifried snuck in a free-position goal as time expired in the third quarter for a pivotal tally.

Ally Weneta finished with 10 saves, including three on Lion free-position opportunities. Weneta has made nine or more saves in all three games this season. She also had two caused turnovers in the game, including a key pickpocket of a GCU pass with just more than eight minutes remaining.

Sophomore Bailey Krahl and Seifried each had hat tricks to lead the Raider scoring attack. Seifried won a game-high seven draw controls, collected two groundballs, and was one of three Raiders along with Weneta and senior Kayla Jones to collect multiple caused turnovers.

Senior Jena MacDonald had a game-high four assists, bringing her season total to nine through three games. Vosburg and graduate Alana Cardaci each scored two goals, while senior Sydney Costanza had two assists.

Senior Gabby Savarino scored a goal and finished the game with four draw controls, three groundballs and a caused turnover. Six Raiders finished with multiple groundballs, including MacDonald, Jones, and senior Clairanne Chairs. Senior Kasey Schuchardt had three draw controls.

Georgian Court's Shaine Sauter and Sabrina Chandler each scored hat tricks, while goalkeeper Alexis Hahn made 10 saves in defeat. Sauter had five of her team's 10 draw controls. Riley O'Connor had two goals and a game-high four groundballs.

Shippensburg will host Lock Haven at 4 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 11 at Robb Sports Complex.
